From Robin with LoveOne of my favorite holiday songs has alway been “Carol of the Bells.” It has such a different tone than all the others.
It was only today that I learned that a Ukrainian composer wrote the music in 1916, and that the original lyrics had nothing to do with Christmas. The song was titled “Shchedryk” which means ‘bountiful evening’ in Ukrainian. It tells the story of a swallow flying into a family’s home to tell of the bountiful new year to come.
