As bond prices fall, banks, pension funds, money market funds who keep most of their money in these bonds do not enough have enough to honor withdrawals and transfers. So they deposit it inside BTFP where the central bank mark these bonds at a different price and make it look like these banks, pension funds etc are solvent. This is similar to a QE
