many of whom are expressly seeking to avoid their products, as a ripe embrace, extend, extinguish consumer base to absorb. Obviously, none of us are in Meta execs or Zuck’s mind. But I think there are a few good reasons to embrace AP that, frankly, aren’t about us.
And as someone lurking on Threads, I can tell you the big question to this announcement is “I thought I knew social media. What is the Fediverse and ActivityPub?” They’re asking questions we always hoped they would.
First, let’s take the IG folks at their word a bit. Embracing AP offers features that don’t exist in corporate social media, including the ability to interact with people on other platforms from one place. That’s a thing that normies never knew they always wanted. Man, it sucks checking 5 or more different social media services. But their users don’t have to do that. All from Threads you can see and interact with and post to all these other things! That’s a great feature for those used to a walled garden social media. 3/x
