Some are on the fedi because they just love tech and it’s the Linux of social media (or so I hear. I’ve never used Linux, but apparently it’s *the best OS* according to y’all and I waste money on apple and/or windows products).
And some of y’all are here because big tech has abused the social media space and should not be trusted. And man, you aren’t wrong there either. So, I see many asking why Meta wants to implement ActivityPub and answering that question with “because they want my info to sell me stuff/find my info/invade my privacy.”
Maybe. But maybe not. And look, I’ll be the first to agree that just because you’re paranoid, it doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you.
But I did want to offer a paradigm shift on the possible answer to why. Because to me, it seems weird to say that Meta, with its hundreds of millions of users and exponential growth due to their biggest competitor being a malignant narcissist prick somehow sees the something like 2M active users here, 2/x
