Same here...it began when I first started work life as a supposed grown-up, and to those close to me I was like "Holy shit, I can dig solstice and all that but feel so phony as an atheist at Xmas and loathe the consumerism and tokenism and as if I'm not broke enough, I'm expected to spend money on buying gifts for each and every one of you, all at the same time, because some tradition expects me to." And we all agreed I was out of the deal from that point on. And the few times in my life I was okay for money, and saw something someone might appreciate, I bought it for them, whenever I felt like it, as a surprise. How nice! But tough to find likeminded folks. Usually when folks claim they don't do it as they're supposedly not into it, they don't really mean it and it turns out they do it plenty. So yes, you rock!
