“Rigged” is a strong word, but is it inaccurate?
The two biggest points Desmond makes are:
1. The problem of poverty is dramatically worse in the US compared to other developed nations. For example US rate of poverty is nearly twice that of Germany or S Korea.
2 There is nothing natural or inevitable about poverty. In the US, it’s the product of explicit policies and political decisions. There is a broken system to be sure, but people created that, and we can uncreate that too.
