- Embed this notice@slowfallinward @awl I once had a Sugino OX-601D (Hollowtech-compatible) crank arm come off when I was climbing a hill, so I would recommend sticking with square taper if you go with them. (I've had zero trouble with their square taper cranks.)
If you want something unique in the US, Middleburn and Spécialités T.A. are pretty good. I also like modern René Herse, but you're locked into their chainrings if you go that route.
I did have the IRD compact double years ago. It flexes a lot compared to the others I've used, so I'm not too keen on it beyond the price.
