in 1953 psychologist Muzafer Sherif spied on 11 year old boys at playgrounds to find 50 he liked best, then approached their parents to bring them to a 3 week "camping trip" to a remote location by the nearby university at which he'd enjoy the summer while being "experimented upon", with any contact strictly prohibited. and many parents really liked the idea.
