Eating North American foods in North America is also important for our biodiversity. Plants that are native to this continent are part of the web of life -- they exchange nutrition with other species here. Plants from other continents and regions aren't part of this bioregion's web -- they're like plastic flowers as far as the local species are concerned. Reintegrating part of the 25% of North American land dedicated to agriculture into the food web would have huge benefits for ecosystems.
