    “this conference talk could have been an essay” is the even more unfortunate extension of “this meeting could have been an email”

    why do y'all like live talks so much? it's so much easier to find time to read an edited and reviewed technical essay than watch a video of someone with limited public speaking training meandering on a technical subject
