It's right on the water with plenty of parking. About a dozen popups and trailers all with different radios or clubs. Very nice to stroll around and talk to folks. Zero of the local super-jerks showed up, but several people made very clumsy remarks to me, completely misunderstanding that I have a license and am not some rando ditz. Almost zero women at the event. One Black man was there, in the REACT booth. I recognized him from ARES.
https://mastodon.radio/system/media_attachments/files/111/313/929/699/781/283/original/13c8c8a386e685f0.jpg

CAL OES booth and trailer, with the tower extended. This was right before they put up a neat folded dipole job that would cover a lot of the bands. They were then going to do some sort of CODAN demonstration. I wasn't able to stay long enough to see that one, but the CAL OES folks did have automatic link enable and winlink running over a smaller magloop under the pop up tent. Steve Waterman expounded on how you do not need ALE since Winlink duplicates the functions of choosing the right channel with respect to propagation. He's right, but the protocols and groups and orgs and agencies that use it this way are not going to drop ALE.
https://mastodon.radio/system/media_attachments/files/111/313/931/777/587/027/original/d137c5c2507f2ae3.jpg
