I think when people say they don't like poetry, they're generally reacting to the above sorts of things - gentle descriptions that evoke nothing, or use of language that is merely confusing rather than poetic. Masefield, Yeats, Kipling (when he wasn't being a dick) were great at this.
I suppose I wish there were more poetry today meant for real humans but not just the kind of stuff that gets instagram likes. Maybe it does exist and I just haven't seen it?
