@feld @lain @yokel people mention that the galaxy s5 had water resistance and swappable batteries and a headphone jack, but at the same time some other people said that the headphone jack would sound like shit after it got wet. wew.

Apple's moves are usually to push stuff. They first pushed the hpj back when nearly every phone had a propietary port for headphones. Also with the usbc port on their laptops (sadly this one didn't work out as it should've). And then they removed the hpj to push for bluetooth (no surprise they also debuted the airpods back then) and lo and behold bluetooth audio tech is miles better than what we had back then.
