Any infection will reactivate herpes, as the immune system is now divided between suppressing the herpes and fighting the new infection. Hence the name "cold sore". The miracle here is that someone was paid to do this study.

There are ways to support your immune system so it has a better chance of fighting on multiple fronts, but they won't publish that.
