When you say

I would hope the intention here to send written protest not physical menace,

If politicians operate under threat of physical violence, stalking or threats to their families, fewer women will put themselves forward to represent and others may make themselves unapproachable as they hide behind increased security.

Other than that, I fully agree with the sentiment
"think global, act local"
