Workers at Bandcamp, an online record store and music community that prioritizes support to artists, are unionizing with OPEIU Local 1010. Workers filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board on March 16, 2023, and together we’re calling on company leadership to allow workers to make this decision free of delays, managerial intimidation, surveillance, and/or retaliation. Bandcamp United is made up of eligible workers from all departments, and all walks of life—all class and racial backgrounds, all regions of the United States, all genders and sexualities, a variety of dis/abilities, and more. These workers are committed to advocating for a better Bandcamp for all—not just for their bargaining unit—including their international colleagues and the artists, labels, and fans who use the platform. A supermajority of workers already think a union is the answer. I stand with Bandcamp workers seeking a fair and timely election process. Workers are forming their union to secure fair, equitable, and sustainable conditions for all workers at Bandcamp and to hold Bandcamp accountable to its artist-first mission. All workers deserve to exercise their labor rights, and the only reason company leadership would delay or disrupt this process is because they are not ready to negotiate with the union in good faith. It’s time for a fair election without delays.
