The aftermath of 9/11 was the last time America had anything even vaguely resembling a national identity, and even then said identity was decadent and deteriorating. It really was a different world. America still has money and fancy weaponry, but the social and cultural superstructure of the nation that produces the fighting men needed to utilize such things has been entirely gutted. Affirmative action mercenaries that just hopped across the border can't replace the Scots-Irish martial tradition that served as the backbone of our armed forces, but our elites pissed that away by fagging up the military and mocking heartland values.
