The article you linked was about car tires being the biggest source of microplastics in the ocean.
China is the biggest producer of cars in the world, therefore they contribute to that particular problem the most, and not the West as was suggested.
The unfortunate truth is that they follow the same development trajectory as the West, and that includes extensive use of cars and cities built around them. Beijing is not Copenhagen by any stretch.
