    til red delicious apples used to taste good back in 1893 all the way up to maybe the 1980's but then they got capitalism'd, bred only for what moves product: bright consistent solid color and resilience to blemishes during shipping. and the flavor fell out

    what i don't get is why they're still the #2 best selling apple in the united states (they were #1 until 2019)
