They were duped by the same ruling class that still exists today (or at the very least their decendants of said ruling class then) who will do new things to deceive the public in order to get the same results. My grandparents fell for a bunch of bullshit but like i cannot really comprehend how shit will meaningfully change once they are gone. A lot of older/rich xers seem to fall for similar bs despite objectively being in a worse spot than their boomer relatives.
Same with the few milennials who either got lucky or had a support network. The thing that stops this is to both figure out how to keep ppl from selling out and to stop falling for the same bullshit and i fear its due to being *just comfortable/content enough* with the "system" or at the very least drink the kool aid of plausible denyability and make excuses for other peoples problems. People suffer every day but it just baffles me how "moderate lib" my boomer grandmother is when she was born and raised dirt fucking poor, screwed over by means testing that kept them from getting money they needed, almost lost their fucking house multiple times, and both my grandmother and my late grandfather having to take multiple jobs, and my grandmother quitting her local municipality job to raise me when my mom was working hospital shifts. It just fucking baffles me how they fall for the bs when they should fucking know better.
But at the same time my grandpap who was born in 1943 is the only person in my family i can fucking talk to politically and hes a socialist, and a more moderate one compared to his friends. Its a stretch and we have our disagreements but like leagues better than moderate lib.
One thing i have to constantly remind my grandmother is that their generation collectively hoarded their generational wealth despite being given everything from their parents who went through both the great depression and wwii. At the same time theres a few diamonds in the rough idk.
I would just like to not be ruled by asshole boomers and their handlers kthxbye
