I’m not making a point about a particular comparison. I am making a point about using statistics that have a lot of other factors, like conviction statistics.
I think pretty much all the crime statistics by race are worthless, whether you count arrests, charges, convictions, or simply reports. The gathering methods and reporting methods, combined with differing DAs and differing local policies, make everything apples to oranges. The only one that’s probably not completely worthless is recidivism, since that requires repeat convictions, and even then it’s probably still not good since it’s possible that a criminal just is smart enough not to get caught again.
