    We certainly have examples of the •lack• of such protections causing problems: legal authority to target anti-democratic forces ends up being used to target political enemies of the state, from the Haymarket Affair to the Cop City charges in the news now.

    But it seems like that’s not quite the sort of “slippery slope” example you’re looking for, is it?
