I'm not going to start another thread about the nuances of the civil war because every time I do I get into a slap fight and/or lose friends; I will instead direct you to some books: "When in the Course of Human Events," by Charles Adams, and "The Real Lincoln," by Thomas DeLorenzo, those are a good start, and they're written by men much smarter and more articulate then me.
