What kind of tips did you have in mind?

Character limits vary from server to server. Mastodon doesn't officially allow the limit to be adjusted, but as it is open software there are unofficial versions which do allow admins to adjust the limit.

If it goes over the default limit (500 characters), in Mastodon you will usually see it truncated in your timeline with a "read more" link to expand the full version.
