This anewed embrace of technology and acience is not done uncrtically and materialistically (like in the 1950s) but with a sense of skepticism and precaution in which the heritage of countercultural and leftist attitudes and ideas lives on.
So indeed, after 50-60 years of "countercultural skepticism" and "hedonist international left", we may have finally – of course "finally", in order to mark a point or phase of passage – come to a time in which "sustainable" and "environmental friendly" technology doesn't mean reactionary "small town romance" but becomes applicable to the level of an entire industry nation.
That is a conceptual and practical progress not achieved since the start of environmental movements till this day.
(And no, I don't have Stewart Brand in mind whom I find hopelessly locked up in his time. Naïve system thinking and creed in #technology is exactly the wrong direction.)
