I finally worked out why I hate motivational speakers
It's not envy, nor jealousy, nor is it some bias against successful people.
It's the fact that they essentially get up on stage and brag for the entire speech about how far they've come.
In addition, the last few I saw showed photos which included the many support people who made their progress and adventure possible - but they didn't acknowledge or give thanks for them. Instead, they bragged about how great they were at choosing good helpers. Seriously.
I admire humility, discipline, genuine skill, perseverance, overcoming obstacles and thankfulness - but not bragging, taking others for granted, and pride. I think I would have enjoyed and valued their achievements a lot more if it was someone else telling and honouring their story.
