I think the damage from lockdowns towards healthy young people took more "life years" and quality of life already than COVID itself did. That's incredibly hard to quantify with data, but the predicted lifespan for someone under 20 being another 50+ years means they lost a lot more during formative years and will probably impact them for their whole life. Tragedy happens, but a lot of this tragedy was choice in handling the situation.
