I think a lot of men need to learn that responding like a bigoted asshole when you're being accused of misogynistic behavior affirms the assumption that it is correct.
No, this doesn't mean taking someone's shit because they feel like giving it to you, but when you resort to historically sexist contextualizations to 'prove' the accusation is false, you're doing the opposite.
Is it always fair? No. Does it feel great to have someone accuse you of that? No, it sucks.
But you have to realize many men are garbage in our society because of the unfair and unearned advantage we are given through sexism and misogyny.
And let's keep it a buck. If you grew up in Western culture, you're a sexist unless you've done considerable work to unlearn that bias because that is what we are taught from birth.
If you're not a sexist prick, you must engage with that history and let people see you are not. You have to show people you can engage with women from a place of fairness and empathy.
Some will respect this, and some won't because people are people, but we as dudes have to think about what kind of person we want to be in the world, not just what we appear or perform to be.
As a man, you have to figure out who you are outside of sexism.
