I remember reading Snowcrash as a kid and like one of the early things in that book, completely as an aside, world building detail, the protagonist goes to a bar where I think they have a taxidermy'd horse? And he thinks 'Never saw a horse and now they're all gone". and i thought wowwwwwwwwww crazy fuckin future but look at all the extinction event shit happening anyway
