This is true. They achieve similar goals but very very differently.

Also FreeBSD has the MAC framework which you can do amazing things with if you want. Historically a lot of custom vendor appliances/solutions relied on it to extend security/hardening of their system. Like you can do stuff like require every binary the system match a known checksum before executing it and it's all done very fast in kernel
