Can the Mexican walk up to a 35 year-old HIM and, with zero documentation and discontinued (read: non-existent) support from the manufacturer, determine that the controls for this $240,000 motor speak a special variant of RS-485 Modbus+ and that he needs to modify the frequency of his parity bits in the serial packets to communicate with the device in order to change parameters on it?

If the answer is anywhere not soundly and completely "yes", then that represents skilled labor.
