@StillIRise1963 I keep thinking about how the idea that slavery was a necessary step in the civilizing process enslaved people supposedly needed to go through was basically the default way of thinking about slavery in the white US for most of its existence, an idea that grew more pronounced as slavery got crueler in the 19th century. A lot of white people will experience this as a restoration of the truth their grandparents knew, which has been obscured by contemporary liberal distortions
