The phenomenon of way-after-the-fact scifi prequels like Strange New Worlds seeming to have better tech than the original series doesn't bother me.
My take: we're viewing the future through a telescope. Early on, we get tiny pixelated images that require a lot of artistic interpretation. Over time, our telescopes improve, our ability to "see" the future gets better, and artists have access to improved information and better design tools. The future hasn't changed, just our ability to see it.
