*soooo in order to install an os of my choice on my current xiaomi phone, i had to register with xiaomi, give them my e-mail address and phone number, prove that i have a phone with that number multiple times and finally install windows in a virtual machine, where i narrowly avoided having all of my activity tracked and sent to advertisers.
