@woozle @pluralistic Fantastic article that doesn't go far enough, in my opinion, on the ways the ACA failed those of us who had decent health insurance through our employer, but continued to be stuck in the system where our health care is 100% what our employers think it should be.
I spent two months on the "open market" after being laid off about 8 years ago and it was a considerably better experience than the plan my current employer provides. Just the ability to choose for myself the amount of up-front cost vs. the level of benefit was so... empowering.
But when getting my next job, I wasn't willing to take a risk of trying to negotiate a higher salary and not taking one of my new employer's plans. I didn't feel I had enough leverage.
Plus. A lot of employers do "self insured" so they can avoid being subject to the same laws as third party, true insurance.
ACA fixed none of this at all, even a little, from what I have seen.
