@alex This reminds me of Sony's reaction to being sued by Universal over the Betamax recorder. They were astonished at the audacity of Universal to sue them on such flimsy grounds... particularly when Sony was partnering with Universal on another home video project.

What the Japanese slowly learned was that US companies constantly sue as a matter of policy, a tactic to inflict losses and reduce the efficiency of their enemies, which are every other corporation - including those they are working with.
