In fact, I *could* have come out as bisexual in high school but it wouldn't have given me any boys to date and would have exposed me to violence. It was so much so that it was easier to just not think about liking boys. But if the world had been safe for me to come out earlier in adulthood, I'd have done that in a heartbeat.
