    It is not exactly a new problem in Germany, either. The German domestic security agency (BfV) has a long history of, let's say, not being the best ally in the fight against nazis and fascists.

    Here's an example from September 2018, when its head, Hans-Georg Maaßen, was called to task for dismissing footage of far-right gangs hunting down immigrants in Chemnitz;
