I get the feeling that AMD is going to pull off "one step forward and then two steps back" tactics, where they release boring parts of the init under pushover terms that do little more than call into increasingly proprietary software (or heck, the Intel way where the proprietary software does everything and then might call back into coreboot - look into Intel's "FSP" to see the proprietary and potentially GPLv2 infringing way Intel supports coreboot).
It's not possible to remove the PSP, as the CPU won't init without it.
Unless and until AMD was to release the private signing keys for the PSP's software, it will remain impossible to use AMD CPUs without running proprietary software - which isn't going to happen.
