@swansinflight That's how pay increases (sometimes) *in the private sector* because you can attract good staff from your competitors. But the government has no real competitors so it's got away with increasingly low pay for years. When teachers leave the industry it doesn't increase pay, it just increases workload and class sizes - so more teachers leave, and fewer people see it as a profession worth joining, perpetuating the cycle of increased workload/class sizes for those remaining.
