Kit Rhett Aultman@cwebber I will sound like a jerk curmudgeon, but I see language-specific methods for bypassing the distro as being a solution only to the problem of "I want to publish right now and I don't care." They ultimately "won" because they provide more nominal results for less up-front labor. It's the same reason Docker ultimately "won". You can be a solo hobby developer and deliver big initial results quickly.
