I saw some misinformation about the state of gender-affirmative care in the Nordic countries. Here are some facts:
- Finland still requires sterilization before bottom surgery. Other Nordic countries don't. Finnish public opinion is in favor of removing the requirement.
- Sweden offers gender-affirmative care to minors. Public opinion is in favor of this. Top and bottom surgery are for adults only, but those are not the only forms of gender-affirmative care.
- Changing your legal gender in Sweden does not require surgery, but also is not available to minors.
- Young or adult, a referral, a diagnosis and a further referral is required for getting access to gender-affirmative care in Sweden. There are seven places in the country that can provide a diagnosis.
