It feels like a big portion of social media in the broadest sense is taken up with something similar to what Aldous Huxley called the Violent Passion Surrogate in Brave New World: everyone shares intense feelings collectively, enjoys the catharsis, then returns to the status quo, making no changes, rocking no boats.

There's a point where outrage is a substitute for action. It's an easy trap to fall into.
