The conversation about #Calckey has been -- to put it mildly -- intriguing.
My goal isn't to be a Calckey booster exclusively.
In reality, I want to raise up app diversity on the Fediverse. I'm having conversations with lots of developers and admins. It's not just #Calckey that I want to succeed. It's Akkoma, Pixelfed, Friendica, and a host of different services.
But Calckey's the one that's caught lightning in a bottle right now. I've wondered why this is.
I think it comes to this: Calckey is *perceived* as fun.
And I think after lots and lots of serious discussion on Mastodon, people on the Fediverse are hungry to have a little fun.
I totally get it. After so many long threads about why the universe is coming apart, and mastodon.social itself having so much doom and gloom, it's about time that people talk about their favourite goat or make a cute emoji animation with a UFO.
The Fediverse needs that.
Now a few people wonder why that's important. Talk on Calckey often seems inconsequential. But that's the point. We need space for silly and fun things.
I acknowledge that Calckey can seem quite buggy. But it seems like a whole lot of people are willing to tolerate bugs because they know it's a work in progress, and they want to be part of something special.
