After developing social media software for 15 years, a lesson I continue to learn is that it’s not developers who decide what the killer feature of an app is.
That decision is made by people who use the software every day.
Take #Calckey. When I started working with @kainoa, I definitely saw the potential in it., and I appreciated MFM. But nothing could have prepared me for the sheer creativity that would be unlocked.
Now for any social media app to gain traction, it’s not enough to be “me too”. You need that critical feature that draws people in.
I suspect that MFM animations is what will draw people over to Calckey (and other *key apps).
And by the way, I’d you’re on #Mastodon, you might want to click on the post I’m quoting—prepare to be astonished!
