Slavery abolition, equality for women, equality for racial minorities, they were all ideas that people didn't want to even hear, let alone accept. So the people who supported these ideas just kept repeating them, over and over and over and over and over. You just keep repeating your idea to people until they accept it. That's how any idea gains traction.
