I highly doubt we'll land humans on Mars in my lifetime anyway, let alone Elon Musk's. Mars sucks. It's hard to get there, it's hard to land, it's lethal, it's expensive, and it's largely pointless except to say we did it.

A robotic sample return mission is far cheaper and more useful.
