We went to see the #SuperMarioBrosMovie and obviously given the constraints it had no chance of being a cinematic masterpiece, but given those constraints, seriously, it has no business being as good as it is.
There's an actual story that mostly works, voice acting and animation is flawless, there is character development, the references are fun but mostly not actually on the nose and the score is absolutely brilliant.
Watch it with a person too young to have seen even a Wee in real life, but who has caught up through hours and hours of YouTube, and you'll be constantly be jabbed in the side by someone going "that's the suit and the flowers Bowser had at the end of Odyssey!", "that's a Mario 64 reference!", etc. =)
