When Mastodon's user numbers exploded in 2022, this also meant that all the other Fediverse platforms got a much bigger audience as well. New Mastodon users don't just follow Mastodon accounts, they also follow PeerTube, Pixelfed accounts etc.

Commercial social networks like Twitter, Facebook etc hate this kind of collaboration, but the Fediverse is built upon it.
