You can follow many types of Fediverse accounts from your Mastodon account.

For example, @Iancylkowski is a Pixelfed account, but you can click on it and follow it and interact with it just like a Mastodon account.

Another example, @theatticdwellers is a PeerTube account and you can follow that, watch its videos and interact with them entirely through Mastodon.

This is possible because Fediverse server types use a common technical standard to communicate, called ActivityPub.
